Adopting From BAGSDR
All of the dogs we offer for adoption have been rescued from “kill shelters” or from being unclaimed street strays, throughout Texas. Many have been neglected and some have tested positive for heart worms All the dogs however, are wonderful, loving, and appreciative for being giving a second chance at a wonderful life. We do everything we can to insure that these dogs find responsible, loving, forever indoor homes with people who are going to allow them as part of their family and include them in their day to day family life and activities.
Because we require a home visit as part of our adoption process, our adoption area is restricted to the San Antonio / Austin Texas area. We have made exception to this policy from time to time if it is in the best interest of the dog being adopted.
We love our active duty military dearly and appreciate their service and sacrifice to our great country. We too served, however, we will only adopt to active duty military personal if they are getting ready to get out of the military or if they can provide proof that they have maintained their pet(s) through any transfers of duty station they have experienced. Unfortunately not all active duty military personal can guarantee that they will be able to provide a forever home. Many of the dogs we rescue come from active duty military personal having to surrender their pet(s) because they are being transferred and sadly unable to take their pet(s) with them. Many these poor pets find themselves in shelters through our state and country.
Potential adopters must be 21 years or older, own their own home with a secure 6 foot fenced yard ( sorry, no apartment renters ). They need to own or be willing to purchase a secure dog crate (plastic or wire) big and strong enough for a large, powerful dog. They should be active and have plenty of time to spend with a dog that lives to love and be with their family. We do not adopt to outdoor only homes, and we do not adopt to anyone looking specifically for a “guard dog”.
We are not a “shelter”, therefore not open to the general public for visits. The dogs live with us at our home. If you are interested in meeting a particular dog, we would be happy to make arrangements with you to meet the dog after you have completed the Blue Angel adoption application. We do not accept applications from other organizations.

Adoption Process
If you are interested in adopting please submit the application listed below or stop by at one of our meet-n-greet events noted on the calendar of events.
You will need to provide 3 personal references (no family members please!) The references you provide should be people that have seen you interact with your pets. We will contact your 3 personal references via e-mail (please make sure we have the correct email addresses). You will also need to provide at least one vet reference. Please contact the vets office and let them know we will be calling and contact your personal references and let them know to be on the lookout for an email from us and let them know the importance of a prompt response.
We will also conduct a phone interview with you. Please email us with the best time to contact you when you have the time to talk freely (Please note, we are unavailable M-F before 6 p.m.). We will contact you by phone to discuss adoption possibilities. If both parties want to move forward after the phone interview is completed and all references are checked, a meet and greet can be scheduled (Typically on Saturdays. On occasion, exceptions might be made pending everyone’s schedules. ) If all goes well with the meet n greet, then the required home visit can take place.
Our adoption donations vary and are determined by a dog's age, training, and medical needs. The donation for a German Shepherd Dog starts at $350.00 for adults and $450 for puppies believed to be 12 months or younger. The adoption donation for a mixed dog starts at $200.00, again vary depending on age, training and medical need. All the dogs we offer for adoption have been vetted, spay/neutered, wormed, are current on vaccinations, have been heart worm tested, and are micro-chipped. The adoption donation helps to offset some of the costs we encounter for the care the dog receives while in our care. We are not an organization that receives any type of public funding and exist primarily on the adoption donations we receive. Please note, adoption donations are nonrefundable.
One of the most important things we do is to match the right dog to the right family to insure a successful adoption. If the dog you adopt from us doesn't work out for any reason or if you are put in a position where you find yourself having to give up the dog you adopted from us, we require that the dog be returned to us at the adopters expense. No questions asked. The dogs we have rescued will always have a safe and secure home with us for as long as they live.
We appreciate the fact that everyone is busy and time is valuable. We hope this information helps you decide if adopting one of our wonderful rescue dogs is something you would like to proceed with. Again, we thank you for your interest. We hope we will be able to connect you with the best K9 friend you will ever had.
